i met the lovely serena crawford on instagram. we have become friends. she lives in south africa and has been so kind to help us plan a safari and trip to her home country this fall. i think we first connected because of a mutual respect and admiration for each others interests. her homes are lovely and her stories are even more lovely.

i reached out to her the other day asking more about her new home outside of cape town in constantia. she gave me a tour and now i get to share it with you.

serena is a serial builder and mover, but i think she might be staying in this new home she built with architect philip briel…she told me she’s in love with this house and we all know what being in love is like.

the house is a cape georgian townhouse. she says it’s fun for a big crowd and intimate and cozy for just she and her encouraging husband.  it has a stunning facade, i love the army of boxwoods. everything in the house is handmade, and hand done from the hand plastered walls to the reclaimed builders scaffold plank floors……from the beaten up hand poured concrete floors to the bamboo reeded ceilings….

i’m personally quite taken with the indoor outdoor quality of the house. the views of the garden from the inside are evocative and emotional. the garden is not fancy, but it’s no shortage of beautiful. there is a proper vegetable garden,  herb garden, an orchard, and a vineyard….there’s even an outdoor bath right in the middle of it all.

just like serena, the house is lovely, relaxed and most importantly, it’s open. you never know how and when you will meet a friend, the key is to stay open and curious. i can’t wait to officially meet serena later next year and i’ll also get to meet the love of her life, her new white house in constantia.
