Betsy Bloomingdale

style icon betsy bloomingdale passed away last year. she was always best dressed and always had the biggest and brightest smile. i love the pictures of her in gowns with big ruffles and bows, dripping in diamonds and yes, always with that smile.

she was known as being the perfect entertainer, obsessed with details, a lover of chinoiserie and english antiques, a philanthropist, a couture collector and nancy reagan’s best friend. her estate in hombly hills was also very well known. the nine bedroom italian villa was built in 1929 and was decorated by billy haines for the bloomingdales in the 1950’s. the home has recently been in the news. tom ford just bought the estate for a reported 39 million dollars.

on march 30th christies will host an online auction of betsy’s personal items- her books, antiques, gowns, furniture, jewelry and all of her famous dishes. she never wanted a guest to be served on the same dishes twice….

the auction is called betsy bloomingdale: a life in style. that pretty much says it all. what a life, so much style, and of course, we will never forget that beautiful smile.
