like most people when i think about the dominican republic i think of oscar de la renta…then my mind goes to his beautiful home in punta cana…i really can’t get enough of it.
when i was recently in the dr i was sitting next to a very glamorous lady at a dinner party and i was singing my praises of oscar and annette’s home and how much i had been inspired by it and she said his previous home was just as chic, the home he shared with his first with francois de la renta. francois was an editor-in-chief of french vogue.
the previous compound, named breeze house, designed by architect william cox had four separate buildings joined by covered balconies and stood on a private beach near the small town of la romana, an hours drive from santo domingo.
the all wood home was filled with cane furniture with natural canvas and handkerchief linen pillows and cushions. the house was pretty much all white (i thought it would be fun to include some all white looks from oscar’s spring 2012 collection, i’d like to think the collection was inspired by breeze house).
here are a some photographs by horst that were featured in vogue many, many years ago….it looks like the home went through a transformation at some point…all white to all blue and white. my glamorous friend was right- oscars previous home in the dr was chic.. i can’t help love anything that is all blue and white! enjoy!
