marina rust connor has always been my ideal. she has this very special quality that you don’t see often these days…she’s beautiful, refined and elegant….she understands restraint. she also has a casual, sporty, and natural radiance to her. i love this rare mix….. simply put, i love a lady and marina rust connor is just that.

i think it was about twelve years ago, maybe even fifteen, when i first saw pictures of marina and i immediately thought she was a modern day jackie kennedy or lee radziwill, something from another time, so classic, so timeless.

marina is a contributing editor for vogue and a very gifted writer. her topics are not only relevant, they are refreshing and a delight to read. she has the ability to make fashion, beauty and style not only inspiring, but intellectual and humorous as well.

marina and i connected this year via instagram/follow marina here, oh the power of social media! as i’ve gotten to know her i’ve realized her true priorities are her daughters, husband and her home…all of which make her even more beautiful.

i’ve so enjoyed getting to know more about marina (i especially love that she loves a grey sweatshirt as much as as i do), i know you will too!

MDS- How would you define your style?

MRComfortable. I dislike anything itchy, and wear my hems and heels low.

MDS- Where did you grow up and how do you think that has influenced your style?

MR- I was born in Washington DC.  When I was small, my mother left my father, taking me eventually to a communal farm in Oregon, a field hippie situation.  I moved back in with my Dad at 9, rebelling against my mother by dressing conservatively.  I went to boarding school in Connecticut, then to Duke.  Living with my Dad in Washington, I’d always admired southern style.  My first summer job was at Brooks Brothers near K St.

MDS- Who or what is inspiring you right now?

MR- Instagram! I had never used social media, but eventually signed on to follow my children.

MDS- What is the favorite room in your home?

MR- A toss up between my kitchen and bedroom.

MDS- Is there anything you obsessively collect?

MR- Vintage dressed mice from The Original Fur Toy Company, West Germany.  I’d had a few when I was young in Washington, and re discovered more on eBay. Luckily, I had the excuse they are for my daughters, and being mice, they don’t take up much room.  But I’ve stopped. For now. Should I even be telling you this? I also collect Coalport’s white Countryware china, as we had it in Washington, and it is now sadly discontinued.

MDS- Fill in the blank: “I could never own too many ____________ .”

MR- I could never own too many plain grey sweatshirts.

Also from book publicity, 1993. Will try to find you something more recent...

MDS- Who are your style icons? Who is in your best-dressed hall of fame?

MR- Deeda Blair (who I have never seen in a sweatshirt.)

Ok, I'm slouching

MDS- What do you want to be known for?

MR- Being a decent mother and writer.

MDS- What’s next for Marina?

MR- Good question. See above.

MDS- What do you think is chic, stylish and glamorous?

MR- To travel lightly, and with ease, an ability I lack but do admire.
