Curtis & Windham Architecture

A VISION OF PLACE

last week at legends of la cienega there were lots of book signings. mckinnon and harris had a signing for curtis & windham architects new book a vision of place/ buy here. of course i know their work and their classical architecture but i wasn’t able to stop by the signing. one of my associates surprised me with the book.

over the weekend i was able to take in the book. it’s a masterpiece and filled with big white houses which we all know i love. their work is thoughtful and precise, there is beauty and significance with every line and every detail. i was surprised with the range of work from a small backyard garage-studio in an unassuming neighborhood near Rice University to large dwellings situated in Houston’s River Oaks, and even including multi-building, country retreats.

C & W are based in houston and ironically i’m in houston right now for a few meetings and events. today i drove around for a few hours looking at houses. i think i might have spotted a few C & W homes, and of course they were big and white. they definitely have a vision of place.

here are a few of my favorite projects from their portfolio. enjoy!
